Experience the magical world around the capital of ‘Middle Earth’ Wellington with a full day tour of wider Wellington’s scene locations and take a behind the scenes guided tour of the creative, multi award winning world of the Weta Workshop.
Wander through the enchanting location of the Elven village of Rivendell, view the Fords of Isen, walk alongside Gandolf the Grey and Saruman the White’s footsteps in the Gardens of Isen, view the location for Helms Deep, River Anduin, hide from the Nazguls at the ‘Shortcut to…Mushrooms’ and ‘Get off the Road’ scenes on Mt Victoria, take in the majestic view of the City and Harbour from Mt Victoria, discover the beauty and charm of the Eastern suburbs on a scenic drive and much much more!
Please note you will not see actual movie sets – we will be taking you to a number of scene locations so please wear your ‘imagination hat’!

- Guided tour of Weta Workshop including very creative green screen photo opportunities!
- Scene location 1: Rivendell.
- Scene location 2: Fords of Isen.
- Scene location 3: Isengard Gardens and The Orc Tree.
- Scene location 4: River Anduin.
- Scene location 5: Helms Deep.
- Scene location 6: ‘Shortcut to…Mushrooms’, ‘Get off the Road’ and Escape from the Nazgul-Race to the Buckleberry Ferry.
- Scene location 7: Dunharrow.
- Scenic drive from the city around Oriental Bay up to one of Wellington’s most popular look out points – Mt Victoria.
- Drive by the Embassy Theatre – location for the world premiere of Return of the King and Australasian Premiere of Fellowship of the Ring and the Two Towers.
- Visit the Roxy Theatre Miramar, co-owned by Weta Workshop co-founder Tania Rodger, Academy Award winning Editor Jamie Selkirk and his wife Ann and several other notable ‘Wellingtonians’. View Jamie Selkirk’s ‘Oscar’ for Editing on Return of the King (available to view Wednesday-Sundays only).
- Drive by Sir Peter Jackson’s studio – Stone Street Studios.
- Lunch at the ‘Top of the Valley’ – Aston Norwood Gardens.
- Visit the home of the Hobbits and Wizards cloaks – Stansborough. Take a wander through the Narnia Wardrobe for your very own ‘unexpected journey’ (not available Friday-Sunday).
- Scenic drive around the charming and picturesque Eastern Bays.
